About Stat Thief

Stat Thief turns Premier League history into a drafting game. Instead of picking a squad, you build a single fictional legend one attribute at a time — spinning through real clubs and real players, and "stealing" one statistic from each name that comes up. By the end of a ten-round draft you're left with a composite footballer built entirely out of other players' careers: maybe blistering pace lifted from a winger, cool finishing borrowed from a veteran striker, and passing range taken from a deep-lying playmaker. It's a way of asking a simple question fans argue about constantly — if you could combine your favourite Premier League players into one player, what would they look like? Every stat and rarity used in the draft is simplified and approximate, built for entertainment rather than as an official record of performance.

How to play

Every run starts with a position. Choosing Forward, Midfielder, or Defender filters the pool of clubs and players you'll draw from, so the reels only ever surface names that make sense for the legend you're building.

From there, the draft runs for ten rounds. Each round spins two reels in sequence: first a club, then a player from that club. Once the player lands, eight stats — graded on an S-to-F scale — plus one unique playstyle trait appear on screen, and you pick exactly one to steal and add to your build. The rest of that player's numbers are discarded; only what you choose carries over.

Two safety nets are built into every draft: one club respin and one player respin, usable whenever a name you don't want comes up. Random events can also appear mid-draft and tilt the odds in your favour or against you, so no two runs play out quite the same way.

Once all ten rounds are complete, your finished legend gets an overall rating, a tier, and a nickname based on how the stats came together. From there you can send your player to a club, simulate a season with a league table, push through the Champions League knockout rounds, and see whether the Ballon d'Or ceremony calls your name. In the off-season, your build can keep evolving through stat progression and transfer windows, carrying the same legend into another season.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the stats come from?

Each pull is loosely inspired by the well-known strengths of real Premier League players, simplified into a single S-to-F grade so drafts stay fast and readable. They're meant to feel familiar to football fans, not to serve as accurate performance data.

Is Stat Thief affiliated with the Premier League or any club?

No. Stat Thief is an independent, unofficial fan project. Club names, colours and player references are used purely for entertainment purposes and Stat Thief has no affiliation with any league, club, or player.

Can I restart or try a different position?

Yes — at any point during a draft you can reset and start over with a new position, and once a career is finished you can begin a brand new one from scratch.

Does progress save between visits?

Each career lives in the current browser session. Closing or reloading the page starts a brand new legend from round one.

Guides and strategy

The draft takes eight minutes, but the systems underneath it are not obvious. These guides explain the weightings, the grade scale and the resource decisions that separate a seventy-rated build from a ninety-rated one.
